When Jalisa Williams was 3 and she and her mother arrived at the York Street Project because they had nowhere else to turn, little did she know 25 years later she would be helping people just like her family.
“When I was 3 years old, I didn’t know what was going on,” said Williams, now 28, who has been a case manager at the Jersey City non-profit for a year now. “All I remember is I was in the program at the St. Joseph’s Home and from there they would put us in The Nurturing Place,” a children’s developmental center while parents are at work or school.
